Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 Revealed for 2021

Added: 20 April 2021

Grey Volkswagen Transporter TG.1 Sportline

The multi-purpose Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 has already gained popularity in the European market. This model’s current design is a modern and modified version of the several well-designed camper conversions in recent years and is straight from its manufacturing source. Although it isn’t precisely a pop-up camper, it projects a livelier feel.

The Volkswagen Transporter T6.1

As the name suggests, the Volkswagen's Transporter T6.1 Sportline displays a sporty, stylish look, enhanced with casual wheels and red trim. The T6.1’s interior design, coupled with its unique exterior, gives it the appearance suited for its purpose. With an updated suspension, the van drops 30 millimetres underneath, a decision VW believes will equip the vehicle with more responsive handling than the others in the T6.1 range. The drop is improved with a body gear that includes a modified front fascia and bars at its sides.

Interior and exterior design

Also known as the Sportline, the T6.1’s interior has the following outstanding features:

  • leather seats
  • suede trim
  • tech features such as a computerized cockpit (the first of its kind for the Kombi or board van)
  • an advanced sound system with a Discover Media navigation system attached
  • the front seat warms up while sporting
  • adaptive cruise control
  • emergency auto-braking
  • front and rear parking beams
  • a rear-view camera

The Sportline T6.1 exterior comes in various metallic colours to help you stand out from the crowd, including:

  • Fortana red
  • Ravenna blue
  • Indium grey
  • Copper bronze

Interestingly, the German Motor Vehicle manufacturer deals with an upgrade to this already redesigned model. The Sportline Black Edition offers a darker version with an opaque window colour for Kombi models, matte dark sidebars, and an exclusive tone for the wheels. The Black Edition decals are likewise enhanced with an overhauled navigation system, yet similar to the standard Sportline, combining functionality with a unique appearance. Additionally, this edition uses Eibach Coilover suspension for better movement.

Regarding power, the Sportline’s features give it a robust appearance. The lower ride height creates a sharper and nimbler effect in the curves compared to the standard Transporter. This is befitting since the Sportline also boasts a range-topping 2.0-litre diesel engine with a stunning 201bhp, 0-62 mph, or 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. This is fast enough to leave most executive saloon vehicles in its shadows.

The Transporter van range

The Transporter van family is iconic; with over six generations, from the split-screen T1 to the refined and proficient T6, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has sold almost twelve million units worldwide. Presently the Transporter line-up is getting its most recent update to become the most current version of an icon.
The Volkswagen Transporter Sportline is accessible in Kombi and Panel variants, long or short wheels. The standard Sportline begins at £42,940 while the Black Edition starts at £49,450.
